Parent-Teacher Conferences are next Wed-Fri. Each of those days is early dismissal at 12:35. Conferences for the Jr High will be open house style upstairs in Mr. Balling and Mrs. Schriever’s rooms from 1:00-7:00 Wed and Thurs. Teachers will take a dinner break and will be unavailable from 5:30-6:15 Friday we will host conferences until 4:00 PM.
My conference schedule is slightly different from the rest of the Jr High. I have been asked by BYU to speak at a forum for education students representing both charter schools and arts teachers. I will be speaking at the forum on Thursday Oct 12 therefore I will be unavailable on Thursday. If you can’t meet with me on Wed or Fri but still would like to, please contact me to schedule a conference at a later date/time.
Please let me know if you have any questions and have a nice weekend 🙂
Our next unit in Theatre 1 is learning to critique and write about theatre. Netflix has released a live-taping of “Newsies: The Broadway Musical” and it would be a great opportunity for students to see a Broadway-level performance. The musical is slightly different from the original film version with an all new score and some new characters. The musical is rated PG. We will be screening this movie in class beginning Wednesday October 4 and finishing it Monday October 9. Students will be analyzing the performances and writing a newspaper-style review of the show. This assignment will count as their Play Report requirement for Term 1 as outlined in the disclosure.
If you do not want your child to view this movie in class, they will be given an alternate assignment to work on in another teacher’s classroom.
As you know, Parent-Teacher Conferences are October 11-13. The Jr High teachers are in need of some parent volunteers to come help distribute forms and direct other parents to the various teachers. This is an easy way to get some of your 30 required volunteer hours. To sign-up for a slot go to www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C0549AFAA28A6FA7-parentteacher
Or you can contact me with questions.
I have office/tutoring hours every Monday and Thursday before school from 8:00-8:25. Any student/parent is welcome to come work on assignments, talk with me about work, etc during that time. If you would like more than just 25 minutes, please email me and we can arrange another time to meet.
Students are working on their Fractured Fairytale Scripts using Google Docs. For A/4 these are due WEDNESDAY SEPT 20.
Our first Spanish Test is coming up next week on Tuesday 9/19. The study guide is now available from the “Español” drop down menu. Please review it carefully. We will review on Friday in class.
NOTE ON TEST RETAKES: I allow test re-takes for any students who score below 74% on their first attempt. Retakes are scheduled by appointment with me and students can earn back 1/2 point for each corrected answer they got wrong initially.
Just a reminder about my late-work policy as stated in the disclosure:
“IN ORDER TO RECEIVE FULL CREDIT, ALL ASSIGNMENTS MUST BE TURNED IN BY THE ASSIGNED DUE DATE. Students may turn in late work according to an individual teacher’s policy. Any extenuating circumstances should be discussed with the teacher BEFORE the assignment is due, but is not a guarantee of an extension. For this class any late work will receive an automatic 25% point reduction. Late-work will be accepted until end of the month the assignment was due, or the end of the term (whichever comes first). After that it will become a 0 and will not be accepted.”
This means that any late assignments due this month must be submitted no later than September 30 in order to receive partial credit. After that date no late-work will be accepted for the month of September. If you have questions regarding the policy please email me.
Interested in advertising your business in our Playbill for our Fall musical “Oklahoma!”? Over 1,000 community members will see your ad and it’s a great way to show a local business patronizing the arts in our schools.
If you are interested, please download out Playbill Advertisement Form and bring payment into the Front Office before October 10.
Let me know if you have any questions!!
Don’t forget our Oklahoma! Parent Meeting is this Wednesday 9/6 from 4:30-5:15. We will be going over cast rules and policies, volunteer opportunities and getting all on the same page. Please complete the following ASAP
You can also download the rehearsal calendar here or on the “Oklahoma!” page of my blog
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE STUDENTS IN OUR OKLAHOMA! CAST! Competition was VERY stiff this year and there were SO MANY incredibly talented kids who auditioned. Thanks to everyone who auditioned and I hope you will come audition again for “The Little Mermaid Jr” in January. If students have questions regarding their audition, please contact me next week to schedule an appointment.
PARENTS OF CAST MEMBERS: Please check your email later today for some important information. Our first rehearsal is next Tuesday September 5 from 3:15-5:00.
There were some errors with the Disclosure Forms not giving access. They should work now. Please email me if they are not working (I do not check block comments very often)
I am switching to a Digital Disclosure format this year to save on paper and time. Many of the Jr High teachers are doing the same. The links below will take you to your respective class disclosures. These links will also be emailed home and posted on the class blog pages. Please read the policies (both parent and student) carefully and then follow the instructions to sign them digitally.
Paper copies can be available upon request, but digital is preferred.
Disclosures are a required assignment due August 28 and worth 20 points.
This year I am trying to get something we desperately need for our techies: wireless communication headsets! This will allow me and the stage hands to directly communicate during our performances. Scene changes, costume changes, and backstage management will become seamless with these AWESOME wireless headsets.
I’ve create a Donor’s Choose (similar to a “Go Fund Me” for teachers) to help raise money. I’m not necessarily asking y’all to donate (though you always can). What I need is for EVERYONE TO SHARE THIS LINK! Post it on Facebook, put it in emails, Tweet it, put it on Instagram, and wherever else. The more we can signal boost this project, the more likely we are to get funded.
If we are successful with this project, not only will our students benefit from some MUCH needed technology, but we will be able to apply for larger projects in the future (*cough cough* our own microphones). I also think donations are tax deductible.
If you have questions about Donors Choose let me know. Here is the link to share!
Below are some TENTATIVE dates for next year. They are NOT set in stone. Changes will be announced here on my blog over the summer.
