Happy Thursday!!

Apologies for the tardiness in this update. Things are going well on the testing front, we are almost completed with all of the tests!! Again, I can’t thank your kiddos enough for their patience with me and all the testing and still smiling through it all!!

**TUTORING** Canceled for Thursday (1/18) I have a doctor’s appointment during this time and Mrs. Ketcham is in an IEP.  We will continue Tutoring on Monday.  Thank you for your understanding.

**Reading Logs** Please make sure that your kiddo is reading at least 20 minutes each night.  This is any type of reading, as long as the kiddo is completing the majority of the reading.  Please also mark down the time they are reading and initial it for me, please! Thank you so much for this.

Still needing a couple of these!! **Science Live Permission Slips** We planted magic beans on Friday and we are anxiously waiting for them to sprout so we can read their special messages to us!! As a culminating event for our Beans, we will be participating in a Science Live activity with Bush’s Baked Beans.  We have experts coming in to teach us about the importance of beans in our diet and we will be sharing that presentation with the other 2nd grades in our Ascent Network.  Since we will be around beans and will have the opportunity to try different forms of beans, I am sending home a permission slip for them to try these beans and if you could just send that back signed, that would be awesome! Our Science Live is on January 24th, from 2:00-3:00 in the lunchroom. Beans Permission Slip

**Our Monthly SEM focus is Oral, we will be studying Martin Luther King Jr and his famous speech.  We will also be working on what our own dream speech would be.**

**CLUSTERS this Friday!!

**Field Trip to Ballet West** We are going to Ballet West for the presentation of Cinderella on February 20th from 9:30-12:30.  We will be sending home permission slips by next week and we will let you know all of the specifics then.  Just wanted you to be able to put this date on your calendar.

***BoxTops – Always collecting BOXTOPS! Thank you for thinking of us!!

Our Week At A Glance:

Math: We are beginning Module 5 this week. In Module 5, students build upon their mastery of renaming place value units and extend their work with conceptual understanding of the addition and subtraction algorithms to numbers within 1,000, always with the option of modeling with materials or drawings.  Throughout the module, students continue to focus on strengthening and deepening conceptual understanding and fluency.  We will cover Lessons 1 and 2 this week.

Language Arts: We will begin working on Contractions this week and next.

Social Studies: Finishing up our continents!

2nd Grade Choice Menu(Homework): Students will be getting a reading calendar this week, 20 minutes every school night is the minimum expectation. Please initial and record how many minutes were read each night. ReadingLogJAN Rather than homework, 2nd grade has opted to use a choice menu, this will be sent home this week, but will be found on the blog after this week. Once your kiddo has completed an assignment, please fill in the ticket tab at the bottom of the page and return to school the following Monday.  Here is the new choice menu for this week. No choice menu this week, spelling words have been updated, we will test on them later on next week.

Specials Rotations: 12:00-12:40 – Monday – PE – Tuesday – Computers – Wednesday – Library(books brought back weekly) – Thursday – Music and PE (2:00-2:40)

Library- Please remind your kiddos to bring their library books back weekly, they don’t have to turn it in, but just get it renewed weekly so it doesn’t turn up overdue or lost. I talked to kiddos who still have books out from early on this year and they are wanted back as soon as possible.

Friday Journals~ Friday journals will also go home with your students in their backpacks on Fridays. This is a journal where they will be writing to someone in the home about their amazing week. Please take some time over the weekends to write back to them. This is a great way for them to practice their writing skills but to also be able to communicate what is going on at school. I know that my class is really excited to hear from you each week! Thank you for your help and support on this.

Tutoring~  Tutoring will be Monday-Thursday from 3:00-4:00.  I will be doing a combination of Math and Reading.  Monday/Tuesday will be Math and Wednesday/Thursday will be Reading.  I can do every Tuesday but the 1st Tuesday of the month, as I have a mandatory meeting those days.

Hello and Happiest of Thursdays to You!!!

I hope your Holiday break was wonderful and you were able to spend it with your loved ones. Our trip was awesome and extremely cold! We had below zero temps the entire time we were there and lots and lots of snow! Let’s just say coming back here was quite a shock, I wish we could get some snow here!! I also wanted to extend my gratitude to all of you who helped stock up our classroom supplies and for the thoughtful gifts for myself over the holidays. I appreciate you helping us out and for thinking of me! 🙂

Hello,

Just wanted to remind you about our Christmas Program tomorrow.  We will be in the gym around 1:45 for our performance.  Kiddos can wear their ugly sweaters or a Christmas shirt, with uniform pants or jeans. If you can, we could use help setting up seats for everyone.  We will be down there around 1:15 setting up.  You are more than welcome to take your kiddo with you after the performance as well!

You guys, this program is going to be so cute! The kiddos have been working so hard on it and they sound awesome.  They make this teacher tear up and get goosebumps each time they perform!

There is also a $2 dress down tomorrow.

Also we are still in need of some more donations to replenish our supplies before the new year. Clorox wipes, crayon packs of 24, and dry erase markers (fine point).  Thank you so much to those of you who have already donated to our Christmas Wish Tree.

Thank you so much for everything you do for myself and these kiddos!!!

Mrs. Barnes 🙂

P.S. ONE MORE DAY UNTIL BREAK!!!
