Hello and Happy Monday!!
We have a short 32 days left of this school year and I am beginning to panic as I hope we can accomplish everything we need to do!! 🙂

***Field Trip to Wheeler Farm*** Chaperones for this trip are Mrs. Reynosa, Mrs. Frankenberger, Mrs. Lester, Mrs. Peyton and Mrs. Meyer! Field Trip – April 18th from 8:45 and will be back by 1:30, just in time for Great Artist!! 🙂

**Donations** We are running low on Clorox wipes,  Dry Erase markers and copy paper. We appreciate your help in keeping our room stocked and ready for our days here.

**Reading Logs** Please make sure that your kiddo is reading at least 20 minutes each night.  This is any type of reading, as long as the kiddo is completing the majority of the reading.  Please also mark down the time they are reading and initial it for me, please! Thank you so much for this.

**New Policy** Kiddos are being held more accountable on their work and getting it done in a more timely manner. This also helps them get ready for 3rd grade, which will be happening in just 11 short weeks.. I am asking that kiddos get their work done the day of, but if it isn’t completed in class (because of behavior) they are welcome to stay after school and get it done or they will be taking it home to complete and bring back the next day. If they don’t complete it (because they don’t understand or they struggle with time management) they are welcome to stay after school to complete it but also have until Friday (of that week) to get it turned in for full credit (after that credit will be half or not be counted at all). **It is very beneficial for math to be completed day of, since we move through the lessons weekly, I would hate for them to get confused about the concepts.** TUTORING IS AVAILABLE!!! If they miss school they will have 3-5 days to get their work completed from their absence.  If you are gone on vacation, I ask that work is completed within the week of your return.

Engineers and Inventors!!

Yes, I spaced sending this paper home today with your kiddo… please forgive me!!!

A blue paper will be coming home with your student on Monday that explains a fun engineering project that they will complete at home. We are starting the book Rosie Revere, Engineer next week for our Rooted in Reading book. We will read the book on Monday in class so students would have the information for their project if they wanted to get started on it sooner than later.

Here is a summary of the book for you….

“Rosie may seem quiet during the day, but at night she’s a brilliant inventor of gizmos and gadgets who dreams of becoming a great engineer. When her great-great-aunt Rose (Rosie the Riveter) comes for a visit and mentions her one unfinished goal–TO FLY–Rosie sets to work building a contraption to make her aunt’s dream come true. But when her contraption doesn’t fly but rather hovers for a moment and then crashes, Rosie deems the invention a failure. On the contrary, Aunt Rose insists that Rosie’s contraption was a raging success. You can only truly fail, she explains, if you quit.”

You can view a read aloud of the book online on you-tube if your student would like to watch or listen to it again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lX9uNOgdp3Q

For the project students are to engineer or create their own gizmo, gadget, invention, or whatever else their imaginations lead them to make. The information on the yellow paper gives different ideas. They can use one of these ideas or come up with a unique one on their own. These can be made out of things found around your house. Please don’t feel like you need to spend money on it.

Also, please don’t stress over this project. I know that at-home projects often times can turn into a project for parents. I really want it to be their own work. It does not have to be a masterpiece, just something they are proud of. It should be a fun project that they use their creativity and imaginations on.

Projects will be presented on March 30st at 11:15, and parents are welcome to attend our class presentation.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Have a great weekend!!

-Mrs. Barnes 🙂

Social Studies: We will begin a new unit this week on traditions and families. Looking into family trees this week.

2nd Grade Choice Menu(Homework): Students will be getting a reading calendar this week, 20 minutes every school night is the minimum expectation. Please initial and record how many minutes were read each night. ReadingLogMARCH Rather than homework, 2nd grade has opted to use a choice menu, this will be sent home this week, but will be found on the blog after this week. Once your kiddo has completed an activity, please fill in the ticket tab at the bottom of the page and return to school the following Monday.  Here is the new choice menu for this week. (won’t attach but is sent home with kiddos in their folders)

Specials Rotations: 12:00-12:40 – Monday – PE – Tuesday – Computers – Wednesday – Library – Thursday – Music and PE –

Friday Journals~ Friday journals will also go home with your students in their backpacks on Fridays. This is a journal where they will be writing to someone in the home about their amazing week. Please take some time over the weekends to write back to them. This is a great way for them to practice their writing skills but to also be able to communicate what is going on at school. I know that my class is really excited to hear from you each week! Thank you for your help and support on this.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
