HOMEWORK:  Homework will be a little tricky this week!

Part 1:  (Due Friday) 20 minutes of reading.

Part 2:  (Due Tuesday, November 21st)I am attaching a paper that has the A, B, C’s of          being thankful.  Your little one has 6 days to come up with and write something they are thankful for that begins with each letter.  Broken down it is 4 words a day.

I am thankful for…

Part 3:  (Due Wednesday, November 15th) Your little one will also bring home a ‘How to Catch a Turkey’ craft.  We are doing the craft part in class.  For homework, your little one will have to come up with a short 4 part plan for how to catch a turkey.  Each part only needs to have one complete sentence.

Thank you so much for your support with these fun festive activities!

Homework

The only homework this week is 20 minutes of reading each night!

Black Island Farms

Tomorrow is the day! We will be meeting on the field at 9:00. PLEASE do not be late as we need to take attendance and break up into groups before we board the bus. Your little one must be in uniform with good closed toed walking shoes. They should bring a small backpack for a hoodie, water bottle and sack lunch.

I have not been contacted by Black Island Farms about this, however, I saw on their website that they are out of pumpkins. I’m not sure how this will affect our field trip. I apologize! We went on the 29th last year and they were overflowing with pumpkins. I tried to contact them but have not heard back.

I am also attaching a picture of the chaperone list! If you are a chaperone, I ask that you have the Bloomz app on your phone, this way we are in constant contact.

Please pick up your students in front of the Kindergarten classroom at 1:00. Thank you!!

Donations:  We are 12 primary journals short.  I would be so grateful for any journal donations.  They were at Walmart at the beginning of the school year but may be gone now.  I have found them on Amazon.  Here is a picture.  They have the solid and broken line to practice letter formation and spacing; they also have a space above the lines to draw a picture.  Here is a link to the ones on Amazon.  I believe every $2 counts as an hour of volunteer time.  Thank you in advance!

May 2 – Our last day for reading volunteers

May 10 – Field trip to the Treehouse Museum

Our last field field trip of the year will be on Wednesday, May 10th at the Treehouse Museum in Ogden. The museum has a fun filled schedule packed full of engaging activities. We are going to have so much fun!

Please drop your child off at the Farmington FrontRunner Station at 10:00 A.M. This will give us time to take roll and ensure that we will catch the 10:22 train. Unfortunately we can’t hold the train- if your child is late he/she will be left behind. We will not be having normal class on this day.

Please make sure that your little one is dressed in school uniform and good shoes for walking. Please make sure they bring a backpack/drawstring bag to hold their lunches and water bottles in the museum.

We plan on getting back to the FrontRunner station at 2:40. You may pick your child up at the station at this time. Any students not picked up will walk with Deanna and I back to the school where they may be picked up at 3:00.

I would LOVE to have as many parent volunteers as possible on the field trip! Parent chaperones are able to enter the museum at no cost and the first 27 parent volunteers may ride the frontrunner at no cost. With the craziness of taking the FrontRunner and walking the remaining distance to the museum I ask that no siblings come along.

Chaperones: I would love to have at least 3 more chaperones!

Sunday, October 9, 2016

I had such a wonderful time meeting with you this last week to discuss your amazing Kindergarteners!

Homework

We will be taking that assessment this week.  Please have your student work on Moby Max language Monday and Wednesday and Moby Max Math Tuesday and Thursday.  They will also need to read 20 minutes each night.  I will assign homework groups the following week.

Halloween Parties

We are in desperate need of parent volunteers for both my morning and afternoon Halloween Parties!  We would love to have a wonderful party for both classes but find ourselves short on parent volunteers.  If you are interested please email me and I will put you in contact with the parents coordinating the parties.  Any time spent on this party can go towards your 30 hour volunteer time.  Thank you for your help!

Reading Volunteers

We are also in need of reading volunteers!  These parent volunteers play an important role in our classroom.  The more parents we have volunteering, the more individual reading time students receive!  This time also counts towards your 30 hours!  Thank you!

Please make sure to come to the school tomorrow morning at 8:00 for a background check!  This background check will last the entire time your child attends Ascent.  In order to chaperone a field trip at Ascent Academy you must have a background check.

Homework

Homework Menu

Rhyming Sort -at, -an

I have added the word sort to the homework page.  Everyone will have the same word sort while we work through rhyming words.  This will help us get the hang of homework.  I will email you when we separate into groups.

Sight Words

I have also added the sight words by month list as well as the Fry First 100 List.  These can be found on the homework page of the blog.

Popsicles

We will be kicking off a unit on the science of colors this Friday!  Students can wear any yellow shirt with their uniform bottoms on Friday.  If they do not have a yellow shirt then they can wear their normal uniform shirt or spirit shirt.  Chef Dave has offered popsicles to Kindergarten to celebrate colors.  I am sending a permission slip home today.  I must have the signed permission slip back for our class to have popsicles!  Please send it back tomorrow with your student if you want them to have a popsicle.

Chaperoning and Background Checks

Kindergarten has two field trips a year.  We will be going to Black Island Farms on Thursday, October 27th at 9:00 A.M. on a bus.  We also go to the Treehouse Museum in May on the Frontrunner.  I can take 12 chaperones to Black Island Farms and I usually have about 25 for the Treehouse Museum as we ride the train and walk.  We always have an amazing time on both field trips however, chaperones are vital!  Chaperones must have a background check!  Ascent will have someone on campus Monday at 8:00 A.M. to do background checks for parents.  Once you have a background check done, you will not have to have another one done for the entire time you are at Ascent.  Please make sure to come in on Monday!

Happy Labor Day!  I hope you are out enjoying this beautiful weather!  This week we will be taking a network math benchmark assessment, knocking out Dibels, completing our Go Quest interest inventory and diving more fully into our curriculum.  I am attaching the link for our volunteer sign-up.  There are 4 volunteer spots per day for reading.  Volunteers pull students for individual reading the last 30 minutes of class as well as planning and executing art projects.  Thank you in advance for your help!

These volunteer sign ups can also be found under A.M. Kindergarten or P.M. Kindergarten on the volunteer tab.

I am also planning a field trip to Black Island Farms in October.  I can take 12 chaperones and I need to know who would be interested in chaperoning.  Chaperones would need to complete a quick background check.  Please email me back if you are interested.

We will be starting homework on September 12th.  I will be having a quick parent meeting on September 8th at 11:25 for the morning class and 3:20 from the afternoon class for those who would like to be walked through our homework and the blog.

Thank you!

I finished leveling students in reading today!  We also talked as a class about Raz Kids and everyone was super excited!  This is an incredible resource for students to use for reading.  Our goal is for students to work on reading the books on their own.  I have not had the chance to edit their levels on Raz Kids, however, I will have that done by the end of the day tomorrow.  As you explore Raz Kids you will notice that you can pick any level.  After tomorrow, I ask that you have your student progress from the level I place them at.  Thank you!

Password: The password for each student is all lowercase and it is k and their first name.

I can’t believe we have already finished our first week of school!  I love every minute I get to spend with your incredible kindergarteners.  The only homework for this week will be 20 minutes of reading each night as we will be working on our benchmark testing.  I will also be leveling students in reading.  Thank you for being so great!

I am so excited for the new school year to start and can’t wait to meet my new Kinders!  My goal is to make learning fun and exciting!  I love to share fun facts that peak students curiosity about the world around them.  I absolutely love teaching Kindergarten and I am passionate about the incredible mission that Ascent Academy has to bring individualized, differentiated and varied instruction to all students!  I love that students are exposed to different types of learning as well as different ways to express that knowledge!  Thank you for entrusting me with your child’s education.  We are going to have an incredible year!

I am attaching the Kindergarten supply list and the disclosure which contains important information about our class.

Please only label the supplies indicated on the list.  Feel free to drop the supplies off at the open house or on the first day of school.  Thank you!

Ascent Academy Kindergarten Supply List copy

I will send the disclosure home on the first day of school.  You can also print the disclosure at home and return the signed portion to me at the open house or on the first day of school.

Ascent Academy Kindergarten Policies and Procedures

When the school year begins, my blog will be updated weekly before school starts each Monday.  Students will not have homework for the first three weeks of school other than practicing what we have been working on in class and reading with a parent or older sibling for 20 minutes each night.  I use a homework menu that allows students to choose a fun and interesting way to express their knowledge!  If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at amcdaniels@ascentutah.org

I look forward to seeing you on Monday, August 22nd any time between 4:30-6:30 P.M. for the school-wide open house.  The first day of school is Tuesday, August 23rd!
